Walking: Get Walking Day Festival 22-23rd May
May 13, 2010
Roll up, roll up, it’s the bargain of the Century: for one weekend only, the Ramblers will be offering £1 membership to new walkers who join them to celebrate Get Walking Day (1). A £28.50 saving!
Over the 22nd-23rd May, the Ramblers will be holding their annual fun, free festival of short walks of 5-miles or under, aimed at getting new walkers out strolling. This year, the festival marks the charity’s 75th Anniversary year. To celebrate the Ramblers will be offering £1 membership to new faces, an unmissable offer that offers recipients access to 28,000 walks per year, discretionary discounts, and subscription to the award-winning walk magazine.
The offer is available to non members (2) who join one of the named Get Walking Day strolls taking place across the country (3). There are thirty £1 memberships available per each Get Walking Day walk, and it’s first come first served so get there early. Everyone and anyone is encouraged and welcome on Get Walking Day – no matter what their age, stage or walking ability.
Ramblers President, Julia Bradbury, is supporting the day. She comments: “Dust down those shoes, open your door and get your friends and family out to join the Ramblers on one of our fun, free, festival events. It doesn’t matter how old you are or how much you use your legs, there’s a walk for everyone to enjoy this Get Walking Day.”
“It’s a fantastic, low-cost way to make new friends and make the most of the weekend!”
Now in its third year, national Get Walking Day, aims to help people discover the joy of walking and promotes the huge mental, physical and mood-boosting benefits that walking can bring. Julia Bradbury continues: “Accessible to all, walking is a perfect form of exercise. Even walking for half an hour five times a week makes a real difference. Make walking part of your life as the more you do, the better you’ll feel.”
“Joining in with Get Walking Day is an excellent way to kick start a lifelong love of walking.”
