Walking: New Get Walking site an all-you-need walking resource centre

December 7, 2009

Are you itching to walk more, but don’t know how to get started? Want to explore your area, but stuck for routes? Want to get healthier, without paying expensive gym fees? Well the solution to all these questions (and more!) are literally the click of a button away at the all-new Ramblers ‘Get Walking’ site; a ‘one stop shop’ for people who want to work walking into their every day lives.

The new Big Lottery funded ‘Get Walking Keep Walking’ site aims to help 150,000 people get walking to improve their physical and mental health over the next two years. The site is part of the Rambler’s pioneering Get Walking initiative, operating in 4 cities around England, that helps inactive people living in inner cities incorporate regular walking into their everyday lives.

The new Get Walking site is jam-packed with resources for people who are starting to walk more including:

• Get Walking Packs: A do-it-yourself version of the 12-week Get Walking programme. You can order the pack online and walk your way to better physical and mental health, wherever you are in the country.
• Routes: Short urban routes in Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield and London at the click of a button.
• Expert advice: tips to get you and your family walking more.

Simon Barnett, the Ramblers Head of Walking Programmes and Promotions comments: “Anyone, from anywhere who wants to get walking more can find the tools they need on the new Ramblers Get Walking website.

“Better physical and mental health is the click of a button away.”

The Ramblers expects over 150,000 people to visit the site, over 100,000 routes to be downloaded, and over 73,000 people to register for the Get Walking packs over the next 2 years.
