Cooking: Fish4Ever Resource Provides Insight Into Fish Issues!

December 7, 2009

Fish4Ever, the small British company which sells sustainable and ethically produced canned fish, is thrilled to have another wonderful contributor to its website and newsletter with the Environmental Justice Foundation joining the growing number of contributors to this useful resource.

Fish4Ever Marketing Manager Tracy Wright says: “As a small British company trying to help people maintain their ethical and sustainability credentials we see it our duty to offer the most up to date advice, while providing delicious canned fish from around the world. One way we like to do this is to talk to all those working to improve the situation for the workers and communities that rely on fish and also to find out exactly what the situation is regarding stocks and environmental hazards. Then we source our products from the best places we can find.

“Other organisations which have contributed to our understanding of this issue and our website include Greenpeace, Seafood Choices Alliance, journalist Alex Renton (on Aquaculture), the Marine Stewardship Council and Triodos Bank. We also have a number of pieces written by our MD Charles Redfern who has fully researched the subject.”

The latest addition to the Sustainability page is a piece by Duncan Copeland, Senior Campaigner for the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), a UK-based charity that makes a direct link between environmental security and human rights. EJF’s Save the Sea campaign works to end the impacts of illegal and unsustainable fishing operations.

He talks about the need for increased awareness that in many regions of the world overfishing does not just mean collapsing fish stocks, but also has devastating social impacts. He discusses how efforts to ensure that fish are sustainable are vital not only for environmental reasons, but also because the correct choices can directly contribute to poverty-reduction in developing states.
