Travel: Discover Hostels in Scotland
October 8, 2009
Scotland’s largest hostelling association is to introduce its first ‘Third Night Free’ Autumn/Winter offer in a bid to encourage the budget-conscious to enjoy longer breaks throughout the year.
SYHA Hostelling Scotland hopes the offer, which compares with classic seasonal marketing in the hotel industry, will be particularly appealing to the ‘new hostellers’ it has succeeded in attracting this year.
The development coincides with the news that average hotel prices across Scotland have taken a hit, reflecting a tourism market for which affordability is key.
The offer is the latest development as part of this year’s marketing drive by SYHA Hostelling Scotland to appeal to wider audiences and maximise on the trend for the ‘staycation.’
The drive has included a new marketing team, improved website and an STV commercial which saw online bookings soar by almost 60% the week after it first aired.
The rebrand ‘Hostelling Scotland’ also reflects the organisation’s move to appeal to wider audiences, including families, professionals and retired couples.
SYHA Hostelling Scotland is offering ‘three nights for the price of two’ packages at dozens of its hostels throughout key Scottish locations from November until the end of February, excluding New Year.
The offer will allow guests to experience a short break in iconic locations including Aviemore, Glen Nevis and Edinburgh from as little as £28 for a bed, or £60 for a private room, for three nights.
Louise Nowell, Head of Sales & Marketing at SYHA Hostelling Scotland, said: “Winter is an exciting season in Scotland, with incredible winter sports action at Aviemore, stunning walking at Ben Nevis and fantastic Christmas shopping and nightlife in Glasgow and Edinburgh – to name but a few.
“With the option of private rooms, en-suites and cooked breakfasts at many hostels, hostelling is suited to everyone from couples to groups of friends to families.
“One of the best ways to lift the spirits during the dark months is to get outdoors and get active. We are fortunate to live in a country with an incredible landscape for winter adventures.
“Urban breaks are also a great way to break up the months, and our cities are quite magical in the run up to the festive season.
“Affordable, ecological travel allows people to take trips with a conscience several times a year, and enjoy the changing seasons of Scotland.”
SYHA Hostelling Scotland is a registered charity dedicated to providing low cost, quality accommodation across Scotland. The charity is committed to promoting the social, environmental and educational benefits of hostelling to all, from families to retired people, couples to groups of friends.
