Music: Frank Sinatra “Live at the Meadowlands”
October 8, 2009
Universal Music will for the first time ever, release Frank Sinatras legendary performance of “Live at the Meadowlands” onto CD.Album Released 5th October
On Friday 14th March 1986, Frank Sinatra played a legendary homecoming show in New Jersey that has gone down in history as one of his greatest ever. Released on 5th October, ‘Live At The Meadowlands’ captures the essence and uniqueness that can only be a Frank Sinatra live show.
The support act for The Meadowlands show was comedian and close friend of Sinatra’s Red Buttons. When he came off stage that night Frank asked Buttons “Well?” to which he replied “Wow it’s the third world war out there!” “What the hell did you expect?” said Sinatra “You’re in my home territory here!”. It was this hysteria and a stunning performance from Sinatra that inspired Universal Music to make this the first release from their recently announced multi-year license of 38 albums from Frank Sinatra’s Reprise catalogue. This recording holds special significance among Sinatra fans as it’s one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find concert recordings of his career. Hank Cattaneo, Sinatra’s long time production manager and confidante, wrote the set’s liner notes.
Long acclaimed as the world’s greatest performer of popular music, Sinatra is the artist who set the standard for all others to follow. A massive inspiration to the likes of Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams, he has influenced musicians for over 60 years.
Through Universal’s planned international reissue campaign of the Sinatra Reprise catalogue, the opportunity to discover or re-discover his work has never been better. His style was unmistakeable; he had an unshakeable confidence, a swagger when he walked, and a style of singing never seen before, and which will never be emulated in quite the same way. Sinatra was unique, an inspiration, and a pioneer.
Sinatra was, of course, more than a singer – he was an actor, recording artist, cabaret and concert star, radio and television personality and, on occasion, producer, director and conductor.
In everything Frank Sinatra did he found great success. As a musician his awards speak for themselves, and include 34 Gold, 10 Platinum, four Double Platinum, one Triple Platinum- selling albums, culminating in over 150 million albums world wide. He personally won 10 Grammy Awards, while his albums won a total of 21. He was named “Greatest Voice of the Twentieth Century” by BBC Radio 2 in 2001, he has an amazing three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Motion pictures music, and Television.
