Travel: Pack your own virtual guide on a DIY audio-visual tour of Australia’s outback
August 4, 2009
The Northern Territory’s Outback roads have gone digital with the launch of ‘Do It Yourself Tourguide’. The new audio-visual sightseeing tours are ideal for self-drive travellers providing a rich and entertaining commentary to any Red Centre journey.
Available for download on MP3 at www.youtube.com/diytourguide , or www.diytourguide.com.au, the guides cover two iconic Northern Territory drives – the road from Alice Springs to Uluru; and the Red Centre Way, which travels from Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayers Rock) via the West MacDonnell Ranges and Kings Canyon.
“Many travellers see Australia’s Outback highways as long, straight stretches of road,” George Christakis, Tourism NT’s Sales and Marketing Manager commented.
“These new guides give travellers a new experience, bringing to life the stories of our early pioneers, Aboriginal culture, flora, fauna and natural history.”
“The Outback has a wider story to tell than people realise and the tours feature stories from local characters and field experts about things like life on a cattle station and how Aboriginal people read animal tracks” he added.
The Northern Territory offers the ultimate Outback experience. Home to vast landscapes of deep red sands and ghost gum trees, perfect blue skies as well as spectacular natural icons including Uluru and Kings Canyon, it lends itself to independent, self-drive itineraries.
