Summer is fast approaching and alongside the traditional seaside spectaculars and fun filled festivals a weird and wonderful world of curious events throughout the region are opening their doors. The East of England has a selection to satisfy all curiosities.
The World Pea Shooting Championships at Witcham sees the 39th holding of the World Peashooting Championship On 11 July, Witcham village green hosts guests from around the world to watch this bizarre event where contestants shoot a pea through a tube, 12 feet towards a 12-inch target. Laser-guided shooters are not unknown, taking the sport into the 21st century. Peas and shooters will be available on the day as well as a practice area for insider tips, anyone can do it, even Grandma!

The World Snail Racing Championships are back. Snail racing is a fun event for young and old alike. For more than 25 years the World Snail Racing Championships have been held at Congham, near King’s Lynn, in Norfolk. The World record stands at 2 minutes over the 13 inches. It was set up in 1995 by a snail called Archie. The record can only be challenged at the World Championships at Congham. This Year the Championship opens for young and old alike on 18th July starting at 2:00pm.
