Finance: The UK’s Tightest Regions Revealed

June 1, 2009

holding_piggy_bank_june09Londoners are the UK’s most on-the-ball consumers when it comes to sniffing out bargains and watching their precious pennies. Based on a survey of 25,000 by consumer shopping advice site, Offers.co.uk, the savviest spending regions were revealed and there are a few surprises. Research centred on downloaded money saving vouchers and use of 2-4-1 and BOGOF deals from Offers.co.uk.

Those from the Capital were found to be bagging the bargains that brought down the cost of living, such as home dining and wine offers, household bill savings and organising their finances. As the world’s most expensive city to live in*, Londoners are turning to cost-saving initiatives to counter the effects of the credit crunch as economic uncertainty continues to loom.

At the opposite end of the scale, the Scots, traditionally known for being penny pinchers, were found to be the most frivolous in the UK, splashing out on clothes, dining out and interiors, despite the downturn in the economy, and making up only three per cent of those taking advantage of money saving offers.

Those in the North West and the Midlands are most likely to seek out bargain deals to help them escape to sunnier climes as they searched for money saving vouchers around holiday and travel to get away from the doom and gloom.

Steve Walsh, founder of Offers.co.uk, comments: “These latest figures are really interesting, as they demonstrate what consumers are choosing to save money on across the UK. The retail world is responding to consumer demand for lower prices to keep people spending money, and sites like ours must keep their offers current so consumers don’t have to spend hours scouring the internet for a deal that may not even exist. Individuals need to be aware that not all voucher code sites are as transparent as Offers.co.uk, nor do they do as they say on the tin!”

Offers.co.uk is the newly launched money saving site from the team behind the much-famed laterooms.com success, which took the online travel world by storm in the early noughties. By adopting the same model, Offers.co.uk brings the most up-to-date consumer offers on everything from alcohol to zebra print rugs directly to the consumer, so they don’t have to shop around for the best deals.

Offers.co.uk has pledged to make it easy for shoppers to find the best deals all year round, coupled with peace of mind that the discounts displayed are legitimate and current. The easy to navigate and well established site offers shoppers significant savings on anything from sun soaked holidays to vitamins, alongside vouchers for big household names including Tesco and Thomas Cook, Debenhams, Topshop and even the best deals on concert tickets.
