Travel: Hadrian’s Wall Country self-catering cottage in the running for top awards for accessibility and sustainability

hytte_kitchen_area_apr09 An internal electricity meter allows guests to monitor, control and reflect on how much energy they are using throughout their stay. Guests who use above average electricity are charged for the additional units and this “Pay Back” is donated to Northumberland National Park Environment Association, Squirrel Action Greenhead and The Great North Air Ambulance. Sonja Gregory from The Hytte says: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been short listed for these two national awards. It’s very nice to get recognition for all the work we’ve been doing.”

One of the most complete sections of the Wall is only a few miles away, while nearby attractions like Chesters and Housesteads Roman Forts provide a fascinating insight into life in Roman Britain.
