THE PITMEN PAINTERS on tour
Following sell-out seasons at Live Theatre Newcastle and at the National Theatre, Lee Hall’s award-winning play THE PITMEN PAINTERS embarks on a 9-week UK tour this autumn, including visits to: Newcastle Theatre Royal (29 Sept – 3 Oct); Cardiff New Theatre (13 – 17 Oct); Milton Keynes Theatre (19 – 24 Oct); Salford Lyric Theatre (27 – 31 Oct); Sheffield Lyceum (3 – 7 Nov); Norwich Theatre Royal (10 – 14 Nov); and Plymouth Theatre Royal (24 – 28 Nov).
Inspired by a book by William Feaver, the play brings to life the story of the Ashington Group – miners from Northumberland who became celebrated painters. THE PITMEN PAINTERS was named Best Play at the 2008 Evening Standard Awards. A co-production between Live Theatre, Newcastle and the National Theatre, the production is directed by Max Roberts and designed by Gary McCann, with lighting by Douglas Kuhrt and sound by Martin Hodgson.
