Manchester International Festival is dedicated to commissioning and presenting new work by some of the world’s leading artists and creative minds. The world’s first festival of original, new work and special events, it takes place biennially in Manchester, UK. The Festival launched in 2007 as an artist-led, commissioning festival presenting new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture, many of which went on to tour nationally and internationally.
It Felt Like a Kiss is created by BBC filmmaker Adam Curtis and Punchdrunk’s artistic director Felix Barrett, with original music composed by Damon Albarn and recorded performance by Albarn and Kronos Quartet.
The Royal Exchange Theatre is transformed into a working bingo hall for a new show that appropriates and excavates a very British institution: bingo. Everybody Loves A Winner, created by Neil Bartlett, Simon Deacon and Struan Leslie, opens a door on a secret world – a world of dreams, dabbers, camaraderie and cash.
The Young@Heart Chorus are back on UK soil to deliver End of the Road, the third part of their moving, impassioned and beautiful trilogy at the Bruntwood Theatre, Royal Northern College of Music from 11 – 18 July.
Carlos Acosta, arguably the greatest male ballet dancer of his generation, makes a welcome return to Manchester International Festival for three performances of a very special mixed programme commissioned with Salford City Council, at The Lowry, 9 – 11 July.
