Music: The Very Best Of Perry Como
March 5, 2009
‘The Very Best of Perry Como’ will be released by Sony Music to celebrate the career of one of the giants of easy listening, Perry Como. From the release of his first UK single, that went to #1 in 1953, ‘Don’t Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes’, Perry became a huge star. He followed this success with 12 top ten hits including ‘Magic Moments’, and ‘It’s Impossible’.
A classic American crooner, Perry Como had an amazing career which spanned more than half a century. Not only did Como have a successful recording and TV career (14 Top 10 UK hit singles between 1953 and 1973; 29 albums recorded between 1953 and 1993 and his own TV show, ‘The Chesterfield Supper Club’) but he was also hugely respected by his peers: Bing Crosby famously quoted Perry Como as ‘The man who invented casual’ and Mel Tormé described him as ‘one of the most immaculate singers in our business’. Even President Ronald Reagan acknowledged Perry Como as the ‘Outstanding star of radio, recordings and television.’
Perry Como – ‘The Very Best Of’ features 20 of the biggest tracks all on one disc. It includes the classic ‘Magic Moments’, ‘And I Love You So’, ‘Don’t Let The Stars Get In your Eyes’, ‘Wanted’ and ‘It’s Impossible’. Perry has left a musical legacy that will live on long after his death; his classic delivery and beautiful voice will continue to delight audiences, both old and new, for many years.
