February 3, 2009

‘Whether you’re looking to get fit, shed a few pounds, start a business or reduce your carbon footprint, it makes sense that the best source of encouragement would be someone just like you. The internet is a perfect way of bringing similar people together to make motivation easier and sharing progress more fun.’

Regional variations
Of those who made New Year’s resolutions in 2008:
• 100% of those from Yorkshire and Humberside gave up on them.
• Those in the North East are the best at keeping their New Year’s resolutions – but that’s still only 18%.
• Those from East of England were least motivated with 72% citing ‘lack of motivation’ as a key reason for giving up.
• Those from the North East and West Midlands were most motivated, with only 40% from each region citing ‘lack of motivation’ as a key reason for giving up.
• Those in the North West were most forgetful with 57% admitting to ‘forgetting’ about their resolutions, compared to just 25% in Wales.
• Those in the East of England are most likely to blame their failed resolutions on lack of support from friends and family, with almost a third (28%) citing this as a main reason, compared to just 4% of those in the Yorkshire and Humberside region.
• Those in the East of England are also most likely to lose interest with 72% citing that as a reason for giving up, compared to just 30% in the North East.
