Wine: Errazuriz Double Trophy Triumph At The IWSC
January 6, 2009
“As an estate winery, Viña Errazuriz strives to produce the finest wines by controlling every stage of the winemaking process, from grape-growing in the Aconcagua and Casablanca valleys, to winemaking with the most natural techniques. An emphasis is placed on the delicate handling of the wines, with the aim of producing wines with elegance and complexity. It is this dynamism and passion for wine which has made Errazuriz such an internationally respected producer of quality wines.”
Viña Errazuriz Kai 2005 was honoured with the IWSC Trophy for Carmenère – picking up this special award as the overall ‘best in class’. The judging panel said of the wine, “A dark deep ruby colour matched by fully developed, earthy bouquet which has coffee, blackcurrants and a hint of chocolate. The oak is subtle; equally impressive and expressive on the palate which again finds chocolate and voluptuously ripe, sweet dark fruit.”
The double Trophy triumph follows a series of ongoing innovations made by this family-owned sixth generation producer. Viña Errazuriz continues to champion the move towards the use of lightweight bottles commercially for environmental factors, as well as opening up a new coastal regional coined Aconcagua Costa with the first vintage from this most coastal vineyard en route for early release in the UK in 2009.
