Music: BEAP At Bishopsgate Institute
January 6, 2009
The BEAP show on 19 March presents Sankorfa – one of the UK’s most exciting contemporary music groups and Ensemble in Residence at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Led by four percussionists, Sankorfa’s performances are inspired by music from many eras, cultures and traditions, ranging from cutting-edge recitals as a percussion quartet to ambitious collaborations with other instrumentalists and artists. Sankorfa will showcase a number of original compositions at the BEAP show as well as pieces by the likes of Steve Reich, John Cage and Iannis Xenakis, and will play alongside guest DJ Ed Finnis, dancer Rachel Birch-Lawson and visual artist Katsura Takizawa. The evening will explore the incredible versatility, energy and virtuosity of this unique ensemble and also marks the release of their debut CD.
BEAP is a partnership between the Centre for Creative and Professional Practice (Guildhall School of Music & Drama) and Bishopsgate Institute.
