Gardening: Low Energy Lamps Light the Garden Automatically
December 1, 2008
Here’s a clever new development for the security conscious homeowner and ideal for lighting the garden, porches, driveways and outbuildings without having to throw a switch every morning or evening.
Combining a low energy light bulb with a built-in light sensitive security switch, this new ‘intelligent light bulb’ for exterior use will come on automatically whenever darkness falls. It’s called Sensor Light, from leading lamp manufacturer Megaman, and in every other way it is a high quality low-energy (15 Watt) bulb which gives out light equivalent to an old fashioned 60 Watt filament bulb.
As it is exactly the same shape and size as a traditional light bulb, Sensor Light can be simply plugged into a normal exterior lamp holder, so requires no change to the existing fitting. When switched on, it turns itself on automatically in dark environments and turns off again when the environment is bright, thus giving energy savings by providing illumination only when needed. And of course it comes into its own when the householder is away, as it gives the impression that someone is always in residence.
Sensor Light offers another significant advantage over traditional bulbs. It can provide up to 10,000 hours of continuous illumination compared to 1,000 hours for an ordinary filament bulb. It will therefore save money both on electricity bills and bulb replacements.
Sensor Light is widely available at around £10 from major DIY retailers like B&Q, as well as electrical wholesalers, lighting shops and various Internet suppliers throughout the British Isles. Local suppliers and stockists can be found at: www.megamanuk.com
