November 28, 2008
RADISSON SAS, part of one of the fastest growing hotel companies in the world, has entered into a partnership with the country’s leading green accreditation scheme to ensure all its UK venues are environmentally friendly within 12 months. The chain of upmarket hotels with prime sites across the country – including Birmingham, Bristol, Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Stansted – has signed a deal with the Green Tourism Business Scheme to achieve environmental certification for all its establishments.
Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts, part of the Rezidor Hotel Group, currently has 350 hotels either in operation or under development, in 53 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Green Tourism Business Scheme is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. Businesses are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria, covering a range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and environmental awareness training.
The hotel group’s UK establishments are already leading providers of sustainable events and accommodation with both the Edinburgh and Glasgow hotels holding the highest level of accreditation with the Green Tourism Business Scheme – the Gold Award. However, the company intends the new UK wide partnership with GTBS will ensure all Radisson SAS hotels achieve the highest standards of performance and remain at the forefront of environmentally and socially responsible hospitality in the UK.
