Music: Daniel O’Donnell

November 28, 2008

It is this remarkable commitment that goes part-way to explaining why Daniel’s audience has grown so solidly – and so organically – over the years. As a musician – a singer – Daniel has always taken his work sincerely. “It’s about doing what you love and believing in what you’re doing” he says. Daniel’s soft, lilting tone has drawn comparisons with Jim Reeves and Cliff Richard but with his new album ‘Country Boy’ it is – as the title suggests – to country music that he turns. The album comprises 20 classic songs including ‘Oh, Lonesome Me’, ‘Lucille’, ‘Release Me’ and ‘King Of The Road’. In addition there are two stunning duets; one with Charley Pride on his classic ‘Crystal Chandeliers and the other, ‘I Want To Be Free’, sung with one of Daniel’s all-time idols, Loretta Lynn, who was recently inducted into the American Songwriters Hall of Fame. Fans will love it, as they are sure to love the new DVD ‘At Home In Ireland’ which records a concert from 2007 in front of a home crowd in Co. Donegal. The 95-minute film takes in some of Daniel’s favourite locations where he performs renditions of “Destination Donegal,” “Belfast,” “Dear Old Galway Town” amongst the twenty-six songs featured.

In the months from now up to Christmas, Daniel continues his busy schedule of touring and PR around the album and DVD launch. A tour across Australia and the USA will be followed in November with some UK dates. This is balanced with his charitable work supporting an orphanage in Romania (work which earned him an MBE in 2002) and strong family life with wife Majella and his two step children.
